Weekly 4e Homebrew: Friendly Foe

Every Sunday, I'll have a completely homebrewed Dungeons and Dragons 4th Edition element that you can use in your games. I do take requests so you can either post a comment here, email me at thatrobedguy@hotmail.com with the subject "Homebrew Request", or send me a tweet on Twitter (@brannonhutchins) with the hashtag #weekly4e.

So I've recently created an Essentials Mage and I did what I could to make all of his powers non-damaging. However, when I got to choosing his 1st level dailies, I had to select one that caused some damage, even though the flavor text fit the build thus far. I did a search through Dragon magazine, or at least the ones I had collected thus far, and came up with nothing. That means it now falls into my ballpark.

Ladies and Gentlemen, the Level 1 Mage Daily Attack Power: Friendly Foe!

Designer Notes: I don't have much to say about this one. I tried to balance the daze and CA with it targeting all creatures but I'm still not 100% sure if it's daily material. Let me know what you think.

Errata: Since Dazed creatures already provoke CA, it has been extended to another round.

Friendly Foe was created using Power2ool for use in your 4th Edition Dungeons and Dragons game, by Wizards of the Coast.

  1. Dazed targets already grant combat advantage, perhaps make them unable to gain combat advantage?

  2. And that's what I get for doing this in a hurry. Errata forthcoming...

  3. Have you considered Sleep? It is one of the best Level One Wizard Dailies available. You should be able to take it with your Mage unless you are in an Essentials only game.

  4. As a Mage, I get to fill my spellbook with 2 options of a Level 1 Daily which I have to prepare at the beginning of each day. Sleep is one such option, the other being Phantom Chasm.
