Weekly 4e Homebrew: 5th Edition

Every Sunday, I'll have a completely homebrewed Dungeons and Dragons 4th Edition element that you can use in your games. I do take requests so you can either post a comment here, email me at thatrobedguy@hotmail.com with the subject "Homebrew Request", or send me a tweet on Twitter (@brannonhutchins) with the hashtag #weekly4e.

The announcement has been made. 5th Edition is officially in the works and begins public playtesting very soon. But why wait when you can have it RIGHT NOW!...but in your 4th Edition game!

5th Edition
The rumors had spread across the land. There were some who cheered for joy. There were some who wept for the loss. There were others who raged the rage of old. And then, the heralds called from all the corners of the earth; the rumors were true. It was coming.

The four editions of the Tomes of Adventure*, by one G'Ry of Gax, are considered the most sacred books in the land. They teach of the ever growing nature of the world and how to survive exploring the lost places, casting spells, and fighting evil. And then, a 5th Edition was announced.
* There are actually nine editions of Tomes of Adventure, but the others don't count anymore for reasons unknown.

From the Unknown: Now that word of G'Ry of Gax's passing has spread, no one knows where the continuing editions come from. There are some who say it is an evil plot to confuse would be adventurers. There are others who believe that G'Ry's spirit continues to write from beyond where he can see the goings on of the Material Plane in better detail.

Hated and Loved: Older adventurers believe that their methods are far superior to newer methods. Newer adventurers love the newer editions because it relates to aspects of their life they're already familiar with.

Designer Notes: Some of this monster is mostly a joke on the edition wars. Haters are gonna hate. But I had to add in the Modularity as it seems to be what 5e is designed around. It's the "Do Whatever You Want" edition!

The flavor text just kind of...flowed out of me. That is never a bad thing. I enjoyed writing the flavor text for this monster.

5th Edition...this monster, not the actual 5th Edition...was designed using Power2ool for Dungeons and Dragons 4th Edition by Wizards of the Coast.

  1. This is the single funniest thing I've seen about dndnext. Without a doubt. Thank you so much.

  2. very funny, nice job. Made me think of a DnD monster which, when a bard makes a stinging remark, will die and resurrect as a slightly modified monster and has the 'eager to please' at will power
