Weekly 4e Homebrew: the Sect

Every Sunday, I'll have a completely homebrewed Dungeons and Dragons 4th Edition element that you can use in your games. I do take requests so you can either post a comment here, email me at thatrobedguy@hotmail.com with the subject "Homebrew Request", or send me a tweet on Twitter (@brannonhutchins) with the hashtag #weekly4e.

This week we have a legitimate race to add to your list of usable races. This week we have the insect-oid race of the Sect.

Sect
Insectoids that live in hives both below and above the ground.
Species Traits
Average Height: 6'0"-6'5"
Average Weight: 130-170 lb.

Ability Scores: +2 Intelligence; +2 Strength or +2 Constitution
Size: Medium
Speed: 7 squares
Vision: Darkvision

Languages: Common, Sect
Skill Bonuses: +2 Dungeoneering, +2 Endurance
Exoskeleton: You have Resist 2 against weapon attacks.
Insect Strength: Your carrying, lifting, and dragging weights are doubled.
Somatic Language: When speaking in Sect, you gain a +2 racial bonus to Bluff against creatures that do not speak Sect. However, a creature that you are trying to Bluff who can speak Sect can choose to use either their Perception or Insight against your check.
Mandibles: You can use mandibles as an at-will attack power.

Mandibles; Sect Racial Attack
Your enemy is hard pressed to avoid your bite when they are mere inches away.
At-Will
Standard Action; Melee touch
Target: A creature you have grabbed
Attack: Strength vs. Reflex
Hit: 1d6 + Strength modifier damage.
    Level 21: 2d6 + Strength modifier damage.

Sect Feats

Practiced Speaker
Prerequisite: Sect race
Benefit: Your Somatic Language racial feature now provides a +5 to your Bluff check.

Designer Notes: This race was to be part of a novel I wanted to write but it never got past the world development stage. I just wasn't sure what the story was really about outside a "hero's journey". Expect an edit to this post in the near future where I provide the race with some much needed fluff.

The Sect are designed for use in Dungeons and Dragons 4th Edition by Wizards of the Coast.
